take the road less traveled - motivational advice on a vintage slate blackboard

What is conscious consumption?

Have you really thought about what you are consuming?

In an age whereby most products we buy are of the disposable nature is there a rise in consumers consciousness?

Are we too busy going through the motions of life to have time to make a decision different to what we have always made?

Can we think outside the box and consider the impact of our purchases?

These are the questions I ask myself every time I pop the catalogues into the recycling bin without reading them.

I have had an increase in awareness, a conviction in my spirit, I feel a deep social responsibility to use what we have been given well and to not be wasteful.

These are the deliberate thoughts I have now before making a purchase decision.

  1. Can this be recycled ?
  2. Was this product made by someone being exploited?
  3. What is this products environmental impact?
  4. How long will this last?
  5. Does this fulfil the function I am buying it for?
  6. Do I really need this item?

I know I am not alone in this daily struggle against the constant push against a society that tells us we need more and more.

What strategies do you use to practice conscious consumption and consume less?

I would love to hear.
